Secret Places For Quiet Study/Work In London

Secret Places For Quiet Study/Work In London

The university libraries are full to the brim. All the rooms are booked out completely for the next month. The local libraries are full of young kids 'revising'. Your neighbours are always playing loud music. All you want is some peace and quiet to allow you to work and study. I felt like this at one point, and so made sure to find some places in London that would be perfect for some quiet study, somewhere not so isolating, and somewhere that I can enjoy London at the same time. I have compiled a little list of my top 5 secret (not-so-secret-any-more) places that I have been really enjoying whilst writing my PhD thesis. I try to spend a few days at home, and a few days at one of these locations to help mix things up a bit (and to get me out of the house really). Waterstones (Gower Street, Euston) This Waterstones in Euston is a huge bookshop that encourages...

I Am In Bologna, Italy

I Am In Bologna, Italy

Bologna had quickly become one of my favourite cities that I have visited! The narrow porticos, and beautiful architecture have stunned me and left me with such a sweet taste, for which I most definitely would love to return. We explored Bologna on our last day of the 4 day North Italy stay. I wish I had more time here (I am starting to see a common theme of wishing I had more time). I have compiled a list of FREE things to do in Bologna in a couple of hours. Bologna is a perfect in between; not too touristy but pretty enough to leave one mesmerised. La Piccola Venezia Bologna has a number of secret canals that I came across whilst browsing for things to do in Bologna. This canal, La Piccola Venezia is a little gem in the centre of Bologna. It's not anything spectacular, compared to the canals of Venice but it is a heart-warming sight to see in the morning during a stroll. It's...

Forbes 30 Under 30 2017 : A Source Of Inspiration For Our Youth

The Forbes 30 under 30 list for 2017 was released yesterday, and what an inspiring list of 600 young entrepreneurs, innovators and game changers it was! I stumbled across the Forbes list release whilst browsing trending key words on Google. The list represents individuals across a wide spectrum of industries including science, music, sports, education and finance. Being a strong advocator of education, STEM in particular, I was exhilarated at the prospect of learning about ventures undertaken by others of my generation. Scrolling through the list (particularly education and science), I was amazed by the sheer talent, drive and innovation the individuals demonstrated through their work. I truly believe that this list SHOULD be showed to students in Secondary School to inspire them and demonstrate the creative aspect of education/STEM. Speaking from experience, I have sometimes felt blocked from being creative in my field. Especially in STEM, there are such high walls when it comes to jumping out of textbook knowledge and into a...

I Am At Mayfield Lavender

I Am At Mayfield Lavender

I am an avid TimeOut London reader. It's where I discover new places, and hear about the latest events that are happening in London. I recently saw a picture of a friend frolicking in the fields of  Mayfield Lavender on Instagram, and as soon as I did, I just HAD to schedule a day to visit. Lavender fields are usually regarded as exotic, and are reminiscent of the fields in the South of France. Luckily, I was just in time to see some lavender fields before full harvesting. Half of the field had already been harvested and the rest will be harvested mid-September. Although it wasn't as purple as I expected, it was absolutely beautiful and very calming to be there. There was also a small shop selling everything lavender, and a cafe to grab a bite. It's also just £1 to enter the fields, cheap and cheerful! Directions to Mayfield Lavender from Central London: Overground train to West Croydon from Canada Water. From West Croydon...
