Who Is Amina? Who Am I?
Let me start atypically.
I am an avid traveller, a passionate educator and a woman with a deep love for happiness. I am simultaneously a Londoner whilst also being a proud tourist of the world. My ethnic background lies in the heart of Ethiopia, from a small UNESCO Heritage town called Harar.
Academically, I recently graduated with a PhD from UCL in Cell and Cancer Biology research. To be more precise and technical, I look at the structure of the cell and how proteins develop to allow a cell to move and divide as normal. Hope that was Layman enough to be understood!
My name is Amina and the name IAMINAPLACE was coined by a good friend in my laboratory during a very random brainstorming session. I’d love to take all credit for the name, but no, unfortunately I was not the clever one who came up with it. Due to the nature of my research, I travel to scientific conferences and for some collaborative work.
Why did I start blogging?
Aside from the academic side of travelling, I am naturally an explorer. I was born in London and have lived here all my life. Living in London has its advantage in that I can move around the globe pretty quickly and flexibly. I have really taken advantage of this in the past few years and have recently decided to document my travels with the aim to inspire, educate and share my fun journeys with others that may be interested in what the world has to offer us. I also like to step away from the world of doctoral level science where it is very easy to be engulfed, emulsified, and incapsulated.
Why follow me?
I am pretty varied in the content that I offer – from travel advice to London events and even to food and other aspects of life. Travelling , for me, isn’t just internationally; it includes travel and adventure within London. I try to find out when exciting events are taking place, and share that information with YOU to suggest the best views or locations based on my experience. Do subscribe if you wish to join me on my journeys and find out more through my images and recommendations.
