I’m a true advocator of being able to enjoy life without having to spend a penny. There are many-a-time when I have an amazing day out with friends, without breaking the bank (or even opening the bank at all)! London, of all places, is ideal for finding cool quirky places to visit, and all for FREE! Yes, for FREE.
Changing Of The Guards (Buckingham Palace)
Watching the changing of the guards is unique to London, happening daily from 11am (see here for timetable). The New Guard takes over from the Old Guard, displaying a long-standing British tradition. A definite must-see, even for us Londoners!
The Sky Garden
I’ve rattled and rambled a LOT about the Sky Garden already. You must book your visit online – visiting is free, and arguably boasts the BEST skyling view of London. Trust me, I’ve been there many times.
South Bank Centre
The South Bank Centre is a hub of talent, especially this time of year. It is a complex of artistic venues in London and boasts the best arts and performance throughout the year. Check the website to see what’s on. At present, there is a Winter Festival and a London Literature Festival.
The view from Parliament Hill is absolutely breathtaking with panoramic views of London. Maybe a bit chilly at the moment, but the gorgeous sunsets make up for the cold. A definite must on an itinerary to London.
Chinese New Year 2017
Chinese New Year falls on the 28th of January 2017 (Year of the Rooster). The festivities in London are held in and around China Town and Trafalgar Square. The celebrations in London are the biggest held outside of Asia and thousands of people turn up to celebrate. Celebrations include food, music, culture and clothes – definitely not to be missed next year.
‘There’s a little hidden treasure in the heart of the Barbican’
The Barbican Conservatory is an amazing home to exotic fish and over 2,000 species of tropical plants and trees. It’s a perfect way to enjoy a lazy Sunday (only open on Sundays) with friends and family.
White Cube Gallery
The White Cube Gallery is a world leading contemporary art galley on Bermondsey Street, with amazing modern art, and a fabulous building architecture. I just recently discovered this gallery whilst browsing online, and have heard lots of good reviews about it, and will be sure to visit very soon!
What other things would you recommend doing in London for FREE? London may be an expensive city to live in, but it doesn’t need to be expensive to have some fun.
